Good Fences Make For Poor History

Immigration is kind of a fun topic for Democrats to watch. You can hear the velcro of the Republican party rip apart. On the one side is the business Republicans. They need cheap labor. Cheap labor these days comes from Mexico. Without cheap labor, costs rise. If costs rise, businesses start to lose profits or worse, lose business. The other side of the velcro is the conservative wing of the Republican party. I'm no expert at getting inside the head of this group of individuals, but near as I can tell, they're worried that Al Queda will blend in with the migrant workers and sneak into the country.

There may be some merit in their argument, but for those out there that think that we should build a wall, you may want to find your 6th grade Social Studies teacher and beat him/her over the head with a plank because there may have been some stuff you missed.

May want to give these guys a heads up too.

Specialized in Nothing Special

Whether or not you agree with the administration about the whole ports thing, you have to ask, 'Why are American firms so bad (and they are bad by the way) at running ports'?

Specialization is a long and boring concept. It involves such boring economic conepts as comparative advantage (and relative comparative advantage). Essentially, if a country is good at something, it should do it. If it's not, it should do something else (something that it's good at) and let a country that's good at doing the first thing do it. Clear? Well, apparently port management is not one of our compentencies in this country. Add that to manufacturing, electronics, building cars, and building coalitions for lengthy unpopular wars.

In an unrelated topic, Rush Limbaugh (love 'em or lump 'em) had the headline of the day:
"llegal Aliens Show Up for the Protests Americans Won't Show Up for Anymore"
