A Party for Adults

When the going gets tough, the Democrats pull together and act like adults. That is the encouraging news today when the Democrats voted to let Joe Lieberman keep his committee chairmanship.

It really is remarkable if you think about it though. A political party not 'playing politics' and stooping to the lowest common denominator. Quite to the contrary. By behaving like adults and ACTUALLY reaching out to the other side (or at least those who don't subscribe to their own exact orthodoxy) the Democrats are showing that they are the bigger party.

Lieberman rightly credited Obama for making this happen. How about that? Democrats off on the right foot!

Blue Morning

The idea that an African American man could receive the majority of votes for President in states like Virginia and North Carolina still hasn't completely hit me yet.

I mean c'mon! Virginia? Capital of the Confederacy? And North Carolina, where Jesse Helms was senator just five years ago? How could this happen?

Well clearly there have been large demographic shifts. In Virginia, the suburbs of Washington D.C. has been expanding for years. And in North Carolina, the number of Norther transplants and Mexican immigrants has been and will continue to grow. But wow.

Happy Election Day

Well, it's finally here. It seems like just 730 days ago that this thing started. And we've already arrived.
Needless to say, don't forget to vote.

I'll leave you (and Joe the Plumber) with this. It's a fascinating little piece by CNN that breaks down how the McCain/Obama tax proposals will really affect voters.

I'm not in the 'Blame America First' crowd that the Conservatives talk about so often. However, I'm certainly in the 'Blame America if It is Economically Irrational' crowd. We all know why a lot of people are for McCain's plan. They will benefit! Adam Smith would be happy with such rational behavior.

But what about our friend Joe the Plumber? He's perfectly happy to forgo his own personal benefit for the benefit of those with more money. It's like being Robin Hood but in reverse.

As far as I can tell, the only reason that the Joe the Plumbers of the world want to forgo their own personal interest is so to guard against the fact that they plan on some day being wealthy enough to qualify for the tax breaks for the rich.

Isn't that like going hungry because someday you want to be really full?

On Wednesday, watch those who hate the 'Blame America First' crowd to quickly sign up to be a member of the 'Blame the Media First' crowd. Apparently we bus the media in from out of country.
