Nihilism is a philosophy that denies the existence of absolute truth and rejects all values of society. Fore if there is no absolute truth, there is no right or wrong way to live one's life. This revelation leads to disillusionment as well as disbelief in all things. Why would a Nihilist claim that there is no absolute truth? |

Truth can only be subjective. For anyone to claim to know absolute truth, that person must make certain basic assumptions. These assumptions are simply our filters of the world. To us, an object may appear to be present. However, this may not be the case because our senses are prone to making errors and making false judgments. We must not forget that what we see is simply a spatial model that resides inside our own minds and does not necessarily relate to how things "are". Therefore, it is true (relatively of course) to say that the object appears to us, but it is impossible for us to know if this object is truly there. |
