11-12-02 Marathon

Ran a marathon this past weekend. First 20-22 miles felt good, then hit the wall like a horsefly hits a windshield.

If you are bored on Sunday, check out the RCS at 4pm. Here are directions.

-Steve Prefontaine

10-31-02 Happy Halloween!

The only thing scary about this story is the fact that this is the city where I live. Man I love the South!

Today's Thought: The Coldest Winter I ever spent was an autumn in North Carolina.

-Samual Longhorn Jackson

10-21-02 Its time, let us prepare.

Well, we had a good run. Looks like the dragons are finally here to reclaim the world. We can only imagine that our new dragon leaders will rule us brutally and without compassion. And since the new regime will certainly need someone who can computer program and run a crappy website, I would like to be the first to welcome them. All hail our new leaders!

In other news, nightly firebombing raids continue to plague the world's largest cities. More on this as it develops...

Kick ass Halloween party this weekend. Not sure what to dress up as. Whatever it is, my bet is it will be lame.

Today's Thought: Skkkkkinnnnner!!

-Superintendent Chomers

10-18-02 The juice

Well, it never occurred to me that OJ may have actually been guilty, but...

-Marsha Marsha Marsha (Clark)

10-7-02 PSA

Dread party at my house this Friday! If you didn't get invited and feel slighted, give me an email. If you didn't get invited and don't feel slighted, carry on with your boring pathetic existence.

Today's Thought: "Were Stanley and Livingston two pioneering explorers, or evil imperialists that caused two world wars, the destruction of at least two maybe three continents, and the deaths of millions and millions of people? Discuss amongst yourselves".

Tomarrow's Thought: "Like they wouldn't have found that anyway."

-Hernando Desoto

10-3-02 PSA

Alan Parson is here. I repeat, he is here.

Today's Thought: "What, do you think you're better than me?"

-Bobby Mcgee

10-2-02 Let the Mayham Begin!

Dread is here. You Are Not Ready!

-Lazarus

9-30-02 Let there be Basil

Yesterday morning I looked down at the Heather Maxwell Basil and noticed that it was growing. No fewer than a dozen little basils have sprouted. Still no luck from the seeds that I planted. What else is new? I am dead last in my fantasy football league. I just played my friend to see who was the worst and he beat me by like 85 points. I suck. Big news coming from the world of Dread, but not yet. Don't want to announce too soon.

Todays thought: Should "today's thought" be "todays thought" or "today's thought"? I missed one day of school in 2nd grade and I swear to you I still don't know the rule. It has to either be a contraction (it's = it is) or possessive (Adam's friend) right? Well what about "today"? Can it possess a thought? I am really serious, I don't know. Please email me.

- Mrs. Perlman (my second grade teacher)

9-29-02 Congrats

Congrats to Jon and April Schweitzer who are expecting! This kid's got to grow up fast so we can get him/her gaming already.

Sorry to all waiting for 'Alan' to be done. He has been put off a little. Have not had the time to look into this (I know that once I do, it will take about thirty minutes, which makes me feel worse). Alright, that's enough of that.

Today's Thought:
Definition: God is 'That Then Which Nothing Greater Can Be Conceived'.
Assumption: God only exists in the mind.
Statement 1: I have a cognition of God.
Statement 2: If God only exists in the the mind, he could be greater.
Conclusion: 'That Then Which Nothing Greater Can Be Conceived' could be                           greater.
Result: If an assumption leads to a contradiction, then it must be false.

- Saint Anselm

9-27-02 The Coolest Thing I Have Ever Seen

I swear to you that I watched this movie thirty times, backwards and forwards and I could watch it literally all day. Let the training begin!

http://www.speedstacks.com/qt_lg.html

Is it right for you?

Today's thought: "Credo Qui Absurdum!"

- Tertullian

9-24-02 Basilistic!!

A BIG thank you to Heather "to the Max" Maxwell for buying a starter basil kit
for the cause of freedom. Long life to you. If I had a webcam, I would so put it on the basil plant and allow you all to watch it grow. Maybe I will. Maybe I will. Probably won't. Peace.

- The Giant

9-23-02: I call it a "Laser"

Ok, ok. So I have been out of existence for the last decade or so. Well, I'm back baby! Well long enough to put this post up and then head back down to the Velvet Underground.

Plant update. I went back to my local plant merchant and was informed that not only had all the Rosemary and Basil plants been bought, but that they are again out of season! WTF? I bought some damn seeds. More to come in 4-6 weeks. F.

On a happier note, um... I guess I have nothing new to report. Oh, but wait, I have been assigned a top secret project for work. It is strictly on a need to know basis. I have code named it the Alan Parsons Project. If you need to know what it is, chances are you do. If not, email me and I will determine if you are worthy. Also make note that I have pushed all dates back (including the java crontab fiasco, mostly because we have not actually gotten that project yet at work, developing...)

Refinished a coffee table i stole from my old roomate (Bobby Dewar). I tried stripping it first, failed miserably, decided to just stain over crap that was already there, now looks crappy but shiny. F.

Oh, and mark your calendars.

- Scott Evil

9-11-02

9-2-02 Goooaaaal!

One of my assignments at work is to learn how to make some server side java app work on our servers. Part of this is to try to get the app to do something at a particular time. Maybe if i can Crontab this thing for Windows, Linux wont be that far behind and the ever elusive projects goal will be scratched off. Speaking of projects, I am going to have to put off working on CD for a while. Creative resources are elsewhere at the moment.

- Dr. Richard Kimbal

9-1-02 Basil Exposition

Did you know that you cannot find a basil plant at this time of the year? When is a basil plant in season you may ask? 'In the fall' was the reply of my local plant merchant. Although a more specific answer could not be ascertained, I am no more than a few weeks away from a new basil plant. I just thought you would like to know.

On a happier note, I have some kind of mutant cold that is probably hunta or west nile or lime disease or something. So I am forced to yield to traffic and to take the hocky net off the street until it completes its course. Developing...

- Wayne Campbell

8-23-02 To be or not to be that is the question? Anybody?

Didn't buy that plant yet. Don't know where one buys a basil plant. I was thinking some place like Hewitts. Don't think they have that in NC. So i am planning on running a 5k this weekend. The Ready, Set, Poe ™. The first 5k I ever ran was the Father Murphy 5k in Rochacha. Ran it in 19:50. So if I don't beat that, I will be quite upset. My goal: 19:30. Must stay lose and agile.

A shout-out to my fellow cap'pers up in Rochester. The third annual CAPs Tourney™ is this weekend. Much to my chagrin, I will be unable to attend. I would if I had funny money. Next year. I promise not to miss any steps.

Today's Thought: "What, are you British?"

- Mr Farnon

8-16-02 But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for.

Sup. So I am back from training from Florida. It was productive. I got in there late on Wednesday, went to bed, got up at like 6 am, worked all day, took a plane, went home went to bed, then went to work and here i am .

So wow, I am awfully exciting tonight. Oh, thinking about buying a new plant tomarrow. Yep. Maybe another basil plant to replace my oregano plant that died. farwell sweet friend. i shall not look upon his like again. mostly because i do not really like oregano. twas the father of all my crops though.

Today's thought: If George Washington Carver could invent like 25,000 uses for the peanut, can you imagine what he could have done with the soy bean?

- Hanz Solo Christianson

8-13-02 A little more than calm but less than clear

So I leave for Florida to train some folks on some technology that I have built out for them. Should be a good time. Things have been a little scattered lately, but I will be settling nicely back into a rut that i am currently carving for myself.

Have begun the latest cross training session. This one will be sustainable clear through the winter where hopefully there will be a marathon at the other end.

Thought for today: "How all occassions do inform against me."

- Edward de Vere

8-12-02 Looks Like Someone's Got a case of the Mundays.

What a day...

- Milton Waddams

8-8-02:The Self is the valley between the mountains of enourmous consequence

Hey. Going to PA this weekend to watch my friend Bry get married. I know I have been delinquent in getting projects done, but I am not going to change the date with the hopes that it will motivate me.

Today's thought: Blessed is he who shepherds his brother through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper.

-Nosferatu from ... Pennsylvania

8-1-02: Summertime and the living is easy.

In grade school, I always pictured the "older, working Adam" as being the same 11 year old kid, only with money so that I could go to the water park every single weekend. Why don't I go to the water park every single weekend?

In college I always pictured the "older, working Adam" as reading and consuming every book that I wanted to, writing papers, and finally having the free time to travel to Europe and other such exotic places. Why haven't I gone to Europe or read tons of books or wrote papers?

Now when i picture the "older, working Adam" I think about how I desperately desire to want to go to the water park every single weekend, travel to Europe, and read tons of books or write papers.

Today's thought: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

- Count Tyron Rugen

7-30-02: Trying to begin to try and start already

I have not done anything in over a month. Had a brief bout of mono that turned out to be a sinus infection that turned out to be an excuse to lay on the couch for a week and a half.

Have not done any more music and have not gotten to figure out why the WUP is not automatically updating. Oh well. Will start when inspiration hits.

Today's thought: Here we go round the prickly pair. Prickly pair prickly pair. Here we go round the prickly pair at 4 o'clock in the morning.

-Kurtz. A penny short and an hour early.

7-4-02: ... lots of bombs, in the air..

Hey all. I have one foot out the door going to Albany. Before I leave, I wanted to share the two tracks I have done for the new album (tentatively entitled craporama) Music page coming soon. Check them:

1. blue
2. searching

More to come. Later.

- Parapa

7-3-02: WUP is down ... oh wait its back up again.

Re-ran WUP manually and got an error. Took me about 23 hours to figure this one out. There is a (gasp) error in the code!

If a page is no longer on the server, it will not show up in the mapping of the site. That's all fine and dandy, but what if there is activity on that page in the access logs! You are thinking, "What the hell is he talking about". Well, that just means that I never thought that anyone would ever actually change anything about their website (or at least the weblogs would automatically account for the changes). In short, I'm an idiot.

Will require a bit of JAVA coding to fix. I will just have to add a conditional statement. Shouldn't be rocket science. Doesn't really matter right now anyway because the whole Kit 'N Capoodle is a manual process and I will always catch this error, but once its working on its own ...

Thanks to Heather (and Raf and John) as being a couple of people who are reading my log from time to time. And Dr. V if you're out there, I will have a fix for this soon (and by soon I mean not very soon). P.S. WUP is up now because I deleted all bad Access Log entries.

7-2-02: More matter with less art.

Its been a while since my last update. What's new with me you ask? Well, I have begun playing bass for a local Baptist Church. It's a pretty good gig, actually. I have never had people sing along to what I have played (nor had the benefit of having a choir about 3 inches from my left shoulder -- that rocks!).

I am continuing work on my first ever album of mixes (track number 2 is just about done). A Music section to the site cannot be too far away (in fact check out the projects!) I will only charge $9.99 for each album (psych, it will be free because I suck).

I am going to good Ol' Albany, NY this coming weekend to visit some old friends. Should be a Good Ol' Fashion Hootin' Nannie™. Everything is good.

But there is the age old question... Hamlet, or Fortinbras? Any thoughts?
P.S. - Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are alive and well and are living together in a one bedroom flat in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

- Yorick

6-9-02: Respect my authorit-ah

'But sometimes man it just seems
Everybody only wants to dis-cuss me
So this must mean I'm dis-gusting
But it's just me I'm just obscene'

Check out this guy's site. Make you own South Park characters.

-Timmy

6-5-02: Today's Definition...

sport - an intrapersonal event that strives to unite the gap between self and spirit by means of human endurance and physical sacrifice.

- Sue Ellen Mishkie

5-30-02: We Don't Have the Cognitive Capacity to Lead!

The fourth decree.... Search engine is done for Gnawfish! Now get the scientists working on the tube technology immediately.

- Kyle Gass

5-27-02: These damn hands!

Ok, so I have finally documented WUP. Burning a CD and sending out to Dr. Vic as I type. I still cannot solve the mystery as to why I cannot crontab the Java process. I will have to do it manually for now.

So I guess the next thing to do is to code up a search engine for the radio station. Not looking forward to that. Seems like a real pain. But it needs to be done. It shouldn't be super tough either.

- John Cocktostin

5-18-02: Sometimes the bar eats you.

WUP tool is now working on this site. All I have to do is figure out how to crontab a java program (it does not seem to work for some reason). Anyway, its working if you go here. You need to log-in (username is admin, password is superman). Documentation on this beast has begun and I will be deliverying to some professor at RIT for use on his site.

Congrats to my sis alison for graduating with her MSW from UNC Chapel Hill today!

- Lando

5-16-02: Tonto de mi!

I am really not all that bright. I finally began to install the WUP tool and I realized that I needed to have my site designed with html not php (a minor design flaw for the multimedia developer who created it). Well, I have nothing that requires php as of yet anyway (I will still be designing in php just not the bulk of my site). Besides, I think the php files were beginning to strain my server.

So what's new with you?

- Ralph Wiggum

5-15-02: Sometimes you eat the bar ...

Sup. Well, I have been very inactive lately. Still have not even started putting up the WUP tool and have not touched the Gnawfish search engine (check out the updated projects page). I did look into it though and it is going to be a bit of a pain. But I really want to have a way so that people can search for music without having to download 1853 songs in a playlist.

So what's new with me? Went away to San Fran this past weekend. It was a blast! Got to every tourist destination I wanted except the Full House house. But I was a block away, so I will half check it off.

I have decided to get rid of the weblog section. I figure, what will go on the homepage if i have a page for the weblog? Boy this post is so dull, i don't even think I will proofread. Paz!

- Joe Mamma

5-1-02: The dawn of time

Welcome to Gnawfish. You have stumbled onto this site during the unoffical launch. The reason I am kind of launching this thing without any real content is because I want to start gathering web statistics to show my WUP tool off. WUP is for Web Usage Plots and it is an application that I "co-invented" with Dr. Victor Perotti (although I think the prefix 'co-' gives me a bit too much credit). Check it!

Another cool thing that is actually kind of available right now is Gnawfish Radio™. I am currently adding some cool features that will be available soon.
